To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or other closely related field. Quick question for you - click here In addition, to be a good fit for the Accounting Manager opportunity, you will have:
  • 8+ years of related experience
  • Strong technical knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance; a CPA is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, financial reporting, and cost accounting; however, automotive industry experience is not required
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and MS Office
  • A demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate subordinates; experience managing teams is preferred

In general you will work Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, although we'll also look to you to be flexible in working extra hours during month-end close and other high volume periods.

As an essential business, we have strong protocols in place protecting our employees and safeguarding their health. For the duration of the pandemic you'll work primarily from home, although you should expect to come into the office as necessary. Once it is safe to do so, we'll expect you to work in the office full time.

With their specifications and our expertise, we worked together to design a new plant layout, planned and managed construction, defined lean workflow/cells, and managed pilot production builds. In less than one year, we launched the facility and streamlined production stations by 73%, resulting in an astounding flexed production volume of 3x, with no loss of build quality.

Reporting to the Charlotte Controller, you will lead a team on our Charlotte Campus that includes an Accounting Supervisor, two AP Clerks and an AR Clerk. This campus includes multiple facilities manufacturing various products. Ongoing growth has created a need to have an Accounting Manager on site here to support our Spartan RV Chassis and Builtmore Contract Manufacturing businesses.

You'll be responsible for managing and coordinating the activities and operations of the accounting department and staff, including general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable and treasury accounting for these business units. This will include assisting in reviewing and reporting of business unit and consolidated financial results. You also will support corporate accounting initiatives.

More specifically, you will:
  • Assist in the review and reporting of business unit and consolidated financial results, including the preparation and/or review of financial report analyses (MD&A) along with financial presentations for senior management and the Board of Directors
  • Review and analyze the organization's accounting operation, and establish, develop, and/or recommend accounting policies to management
  • Prepare and analyze financial and operational reports including reports required by regulatory agencies, banks, investors, and other external parties
  • Manage monthly accounting close cycle; review journal entries and monthly general ledger account reconciliations
  • Review and analyze complex financial information and transactions
  • Participate in the implementation and testing of financial systems
  • Analyze, review, and manage general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable systems
  • Develop, implement, and monitor systems for general accounting

  • Assist in the review and preparation of the Shyft Group's external reporting (10-K/10-Q)
  • Manage accounting and tax return for the Shyft Group Foundation

  • Hire, train, supervise, motivate, and develop general accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivable staff; manage schedules and workflow
  • Assign duties and monitor quality of work; assure staff conforms to organizational policies, accounting controls and government regulations
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and oversight of subordinates; actively work to promote and recognize performance
  • Remain up to date on overall activities of the team, identify problem areas and take corrective actions
  • Handle other tasks as assigned
