To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have at least two years of experience in a technical support role. In addition, to be a good fit for the IT Support Specialist opportunity, you will have:
  • An associate’s or bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of related networking and technical support experience, Quick question for you - click here including:
    • Familiarity with common office automation applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, including Outlook and teams; some QuickBooks experience would be helpful)
    • Hands-on experience installing/reinstalling operating systems and applications, including includes network, printer, and other driver software
    • Knowledge of network structure, security, and function; network printer function and the ability to troubleshoot printing problems; and Windows operating systems
    • Basic experience troubleshooting hardware, as well as working with cell phones, smart phones, and tablets
  • Experience training users of all levels to be proficient using computer-based applications

Reporting to the IT Service Desk Manager, who is based out of our Novi, Michigan office, you will join the IT team of around 8 people including level 1s, level 2s, and hardware specialists. You’ll be the only member of the team seated in our Waterville location, and will spend most of your time working on software, hardware, and IT training needs for the Waterville team. However, you will stay connected to the wider IT organization via Microsoft Teams and regular meetings, and will also participate in projects and support for Shyft offices from Maine to California.

As a level 1 Technical Support Specialist, you will be responsible for receiving, recording, and reconciling end user technical questions on use and implementation of computer products. This will include assisting with internal proprietary software programs as well as Microsoft Office 365, setting up and troubleshooting network printers and copy machines, and assisting our engineers with some factory equipment programming. If you have the qualifications described in the “Requirements” section, a desire to learn, and a positive, customer-first attitude, then we can teach you the rest.

This role will be key for setting the Waterville location up for improved productivity. The team in Waterville needs someone who can take over and own the IT needs in the office, and help us get set up properly and moving smoothly. If you do this job well, you will directly and positively impact our ability to do our jobs, and we will thank you for it!

Training and development
Though we’ll expect you to have a few years of technical support experience, we will train you on what you need to know about the software and hardware we service. Your supervisor will come to the Waterville location to help you get set up initially, and the team is behind you to support your success in whatever way we can. As you develop knowledge and skill within the role, you'll find plenty of room to grow your career with Shyft. For example, you could move up to a level 2 or Lead Support Specialist, or you may move into other areas, such as networking.

You’ll be based out of the Waterville, Maine office, and will generally work Monday to Friday during business hours (8-5 EST), but you will need some flexibility to provide help to other facilities across the U.S. which may require occasional hours outside of the business day.

In addition to the responsibilities under The Role tab, you will:
  • Answer incoming customer telephone calls in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Assist customers/end users with questions on product installation, usage, and implementation.
  • Respond to and investigate customer/end user inquiries, concerns, and issues via phone, fax, mail, and e-mail in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Answer customer inquiries and provide appropriate technical and/or product-related information.
  • Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Research and resolve customer complaints, or escalate complex inquiries.
  • Obtain customer feedback information, and effectively communicate customer issues and concerns to all applicable internal staff members.
  • Document all contacts, actions, and responses in helpdesk tracking system, and organize and maintain a file system, correspondence, and other records.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of products and/or services.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence, as needed.
More about your success
Your main tasks in this role are customer service focused, so you will need to be a great listener, and willing to do what it takes to solve an issue, even when that requires stepping outside of your current knowledge, researching to get an answer, getting on the phone with a vendor, etc. You will spend most of your time interacting with your end-user customers (the Waterville team), so you’ll also need to bring a friendly and courteous attitude.

Though you will have support from the rest of the IT team, you will be the ‘boots on the ground’ in Waterville. Therefore you’ll need to have the drive to stay on task and get the job done in a timely way without a lot of hand-holding. This is a fast-paced environment, and will require flexibility to adapt, the desire figure things out, and the skill to know when you need to escalate an issue.
